What is Co-Living?

Coliving is a modern form of communal living in which residents have a private bedroom in a furnished home with shared common areas. It is popular in major cities as an affordable and flexible living option for students, workers, digital nomads, or those relocating.

Coliving is attractive due to included amenities and a sense of community. It is a direct means to achieve optimal density, affordable housing, and urban community in areas facing a housing crisis. Coliving makes communal living more accessible and convenient in major cities, appealing to young people who embrace sharing economy concepts.

InitialExplorations

Co-living is all about community, how can we as an designer create a space thats can increase interactions between the residnts and how can we share the same community atomsphre to the people from surrounding urban area? We began by testing different iterations of massing:

The Vertical Hub

Instead of traditional hallways that only allows communication rstrictd to on floor, as part of the proposal, we wanted these spaces to be operable platforms that could go up and down. Th idea is to bring more community engagment in a vrtical manner.

SECTION.

The section here showcases our programming strategies, all the residential units are facing north so they can have a view to the Des Moines River as well as the urban city, all the community hubs are faced south so they have access to the greehous as well as community spaces. Ground level is accessble to both the public and residents.
